If you have a goal to improve your health
you should have a clear understanding of how health is bound with muscle
performance or bodybuilding, which has been advertised wildly as the main goal
for good health and mood. Bodybuilding aims at increasing the muscle volume.
Let’s see who needs it - the youth, yes, might be. But for the people 40-50 and
elder it is not so convincing. The point is that increasing body mass over the
minimum average weight of a person plays the most significant role in the life
duration, and it does not matter what body fat composition a person has. Have
you ever seen a 90year-old person weighing 250-280 pounds? All of them, as a
rule, are lean and their weight is close to their youth weight. The point is
that extra body weight, both muscle or fat, overloads the heart and the cells
of the heart muscles consequently work out the genetic life resources faster
than in an average slim person. Thus, a big body mass as well as a big muscle
mass does not promote duration of a person’s life.
The health condition defines a good
physical and emotional state based on an optimum weight, proper functioning of
all vitally important body systems and especially neuro-muscular efficiency,
which are directly dictated by nervous system. The correct muscular contraction
as far as the condition of all body systems are centered upon the functional
ability and capacity of a person’s nervous system. So the most effective way to
healthy life and sport achievements is to properly train our nervous system
with the brain. The brain is always working when a person is doing any job. It
means that the brain primary is managing and after that a person does his
entire physical or mental job. In this situation the brain establishes the
simplest and easiest way to send proper nerve impulses to the necessary
muscles.
So let’s consider now more closely the
brain-muscle relationship, based on the modern neurophysiology.
The nerves are connected to the muscle
fiber in neuromuscular junction, called synapse. The electrical charge, which
is generated by the brain or by the peripheral nervous system, runs through the
neuron, reaches the neuromuscular junction and releases Acetylcholine, which
activates the muscle receptors and passes the neural charges to the muscle
fiber, which release ion Calcium into the sacroplasm, where the sacromere is
located. A sacromere is the functional unit of the muscle. As long as Calcium
ion is present and/or electrical charges are produced by the brain, the
contraction cycle will continue. It means that a sacromere (muscle cell or
simply muscle) will work until it has electrical charges. Based on the above it
could be said, that muscles are the simple machines at the end of neuromuscular
interaction process.
The process, described above, is actual as
for DIRECT action as for REFLEX action. In the DIRECT action an athlete is
consciously controlling each movementfor example when he is studying
(i.e., riding bike, driving car, skiing and so on) or doing some aimed physical
actions ( barbell, resistance or cardio exercises).A person consciously
receives an image of the goal and the necessary actions needed to control his
sport actions. The excitation of the cortex and its brain energy creates the
action potentials which pass through the necessary brain parts and PMC (Primary
Motor Cortex) sends the signals to the muscles for their performance to obtain
the goal.
My
system is based on common facts which are hundreds of years old. Take, for
example, a doctor hits the knee with a small medical hammer. The leg should
jerk up quickly and automatically. This is a typical REFLEX ACTION. The
reaction of the human body to outside disturbances such as pushing, pulling, shaking,
moving up and down and so on is done automatically on the REFLEX base. The
REFLEX ACTION means the primary signals - electric potentialities - appear in
the body sensors and proprioceptors in the process of interactions with an
environment. Information -- signals from all body muscles, tendons and joints
-- is received, analyzed and integrated by the brain and then rushed to the
muscles for actions. The faster and sharper the signals from the sensors and
proprioceptors; the faster and sharper the process of analysis and integration
into the brain; the faster and more precise the muscle contractions the more
accurate the performance of the reaction on the disturbances and the higher the
speed of the reactions and actions. In the reflex reaction our brain does not
use the consciousness to think over the situation with disturbances, create a
goal to contradict it or think whether to use legs or arms in keeping the body
balance and equilibrium. So it is not necessary for our brain to be excited and
accumulate the energy for muscles contraction. The reaction is done automatically.
Once again: the energy for physical reaction – muscles contraction- is appeared
in the body sensors but not in the brain.
In the
DIRECT ACTION when the brain accumulates the energy and sends it to the muscle,
the muscle contracts. But how does the brain concentrates the energy for muscle
contraction?First of all a person makes
a decision in to his consciousness to raise the barbell, i.e. to do some labor.
The decision (the goal) creates the excitement (energy concentration) on the
cortex surface, which than goes to the PMC (primary motor cortex), which is responsible
for all body muscle contractions. The PMC directs the signals to the proper
muscles, they contract and the person raises the barbell. For all fitness
exercises including cardio, resistance, gymnastic and so on use the same method
of energy concentration for muscle contractions. By the way, the same process
of making decision into the consciousness, creating the goals, exiting the
cortex and doing the labor accomplishes the daily activity of a person. It
means that people should have motivations for their daily jobs as well as for
any fitness exercises. If during the working day a person actually could
completely use all brain energy for doing his job, he has no more brain energy
for any fitness exercises, because our brain has naturally limited energy
capacity. Any over-expenditure of the brain energy brings a person into a
stressed physical condition. Many people ignore exercises because they are tired
of their labor during the working day. It is more correct to say: their brain
has spent its daily energy limit and that is the reason why they could not find
personal motivation for fitness in this evening as they could not
shiveringtheir fingers not because the
muscles of their fingers are tired but because there is not energy in their
brain. To restore the energy capacity of the brain a person needs to sleep and
to rest. This is well known and is nothing new.
The fitness business in the USA and all
over the World since the stone ages until now is based on the same principle –
DIRECT ACTION of a person, who makes a decision and uses the brain energy for
muscle contractions. All cardio machines in the world are made on the same
direct action principle: a person runs, steps, pushes, rotates or climbs. All
resistance machines are also made for direct action of a person. That is why
all fitness specialists agree that a person should have a strong motivation to
do workouts.Nobody could ever question
whether this is optimal approach for the human being or not.
But
if you look at the all living world from insects to mammals, except the human
being, you could notify that they DO NOT HAVE CONSCIOUSNESS, GOALS and LABOR.
They CAN NOT MAKE VIRTUAL DECISIONS and CAN NOT HAVE CORTEX EXCITEMENT AS THE
ENERGY FOR MUSCLES CONTRACTIONS and THEY DO NOT NEED MOTIVATION for all their
movements. All of them are living by instincts, genetic memories, life
experience and REFLEXES based on sensory systems. All of them are using other
principles of nerve energy sources for muscle contractions. If you put any
animal on a treadmill, they cannot work as doing labor, aiming the goal so they
will completely ignore the exercises. It is very hard to kill a fly or to catch
a bird by hand. They do not have motivation but they have good reaction to
external signals which create the REFLEX ACTION to avoid danger.People are part of the living world so there
is a possibility considering a new principal approach to fitness exercises
without using consciousness, goals, cortex excitements and motivations without the
direct action of a person and without using cortex excitement energy ( brain energy ) for muscle contractions.
This will help anyone do workouts much easier, much longer without mental
fatigue, and of course will improve his cardio and muscle performance. Taking
in to account that most people are using the principle of less resistance and
work, it might be very promising to propose to them new cardio and fitness machines
based on new modern REFLEX ACTION approach.
It is interesting to mention that in the
situation when you release the cortex from the excitement (goals, motivations)
in any workouts, you create the possibility to train the brain, as the brain
will work in very unusual conditions - REFLEX ACTION and should control
properly the work of the muscles and body systems automatically.
This is a principally new approach to the
personal BRAIN fitness and understandings that the brain might be trained as
for sport achievements increasing the speed of the muscles contractions
together with the power of the muscles as for healthy life with properly
control of all internal organs and functional systems like cardio, digestion,
reproduction and so on. This will open a new era of personal fitness in REFLEX
ACTION for all groups of population and all kind of sportsman and will smoothly
embrace the world market of industrial and personal fitness machines production
and utilization. This approach does not contradict to any existing fitness
methods as can be an addition to muscles training from the side of
proprioceptors and brain functioning. But this is also a huge separate fitness
area.
The
exercise system for brain training can be used by any person to increase speed
of muscle contraction, improve the strengths of muscles contractions, to
rehabilitations programs, eliminating of elderly movement characteristics and
improve mental abilities and so on. Brain training is most important against
aging process as you look like you feel, you have your age – like you feel, and
your body, skin, face, the way you move reflect your brain functions..
I have formed in REFLEX ACTION the
principles of new kind machines for proprioceptors training and have made
design of more than ten apparatuses for training, which could be easily
patented. Some existing cardio and resistance machines could also be easily and
slightly changed for the new type of training. More than 300 different
exercises are described in my book “REFLEX ACTION EXERCISES FOR HEALTHY LIFE
AND SPOT ACHIEVEMENTS”.
I have developed a method for top level
athletes in any kind of sport for increasing their SPEED of reaction and
actions, which is a high priority in any sport.
